The Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation and Psychometric Services, which offers graduate level training for aspiring counselors and psychometrist, received national accreditation for it’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Graduates provide mental health, school and rehabilitation counseling, and psychometric services in schools, mental health centers, hospitals, and public and private rehabilitation agencies. Our counselors address social problems, assist consumers in productive living, and meet the needs of citizens with disabilities in the state of Mississippi.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
WELL-PREPARED GRADUATES
The Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation, and Psychometric services offers specialized academic programs that provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to assist individuals and groups in addressing psychological, social, and emotional issues. A general overview of the curriculum include courses in human development, abnormal psychology, counseling theories and techniques, rehabilitation services, and psychometric assessment. Graduate students also take courses in research methods, ethics, and cultural diversity to gain a better understanding of the broader social and cultural context in which counseling services are provided.
LEARN BY DOING
In addition to classroom instruction, counseling, rehabilitation, and psychometric services degree programs often provide opportunities for hands-on learning through internships, practicums, and clinical experiences. These experiences can help students develop practical skills and gain real-world experience working with clients in various settings, such as hospitals, schools, community centers, and private practices.

APPLY YOUR KNOWLEDGE
The faculty regularly engages in research and scholarly endeavors. Student research is strongly encouraged with opportunities for students to present scholarly papers at professional conferences and to publish with faculty. Each student is encouraged to become a member of the international counseling academic honor society, Chi Sigma Iota, Beta Omicron Chapter.

ACCREDITATION
Counseling, Rehabilitation and Psychometric Services
programs are housed within the College of Education and Human Development, which is accredited by the Council on the Accreditation Educational Programs (CAEP). The Clinical Mental Health, School Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
Students who complete the masters level School and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs meet the criteria required to apply for counselor licensing.
