The Professional Interdisciplinary Studies and University Studies programs offer adult learners flexible pathways to degree completion through fully online, hybrid, and face-to-face instruction. Our programs provide opportunities to engage in relevant coursework and training designed to build 21st century professional competencies such as lifelong learning, research skills, strategic problem solving, teamwork, communication, and habits of leadership.
The primary goal of the CELC is to make a significant impact on the literacy level of the greater-Jackson area workforce and thereby make a positive impact on the local, state and national economy. The CELC is an innovative program for the delivery of basic skills training, intermediate reading, GED and HISET examination preparation, occupational skills training, conflict/anger management, financial management; teen pregnancy and parenting skills training to teen and young adults 17 years of age and older.
Learners who visit the CELC receive:
- Preliminary learning needs assessments.
- Individualized learning improvement plans.
- Access to cohort based in-person and online instruction.
- 100-hours of General Education in Writing, Social Studies, Science, Reading, and Mathematics.
- 50-hours of Workforce and Life Skills Instruction.
All CELC instructional courses are free!
